Like we tweeted a few days ago, social media is definitely not a waste of time, it is an amazing tool that has allowed us to not only network, but meet great people we would have never met otherwise. Part of being “social” through social media and creating these relationships are the blogs and supporting each other on our blogs and sites. I’m going to take your advice and try to comment on a blog a day. Thanks for the recommendation, keep them coming!

With that out of the way…you’re ABSOLUTELY right about commenting on blogs. I’ve made new friends from commenting on blogs I read, as well as people who comment on my blog.
Commenting on blogs demonstrates your thinking…and positions you in new circles.

Hey, you made your quota for the day! LOL. But seriously, I think the bad side to Twitter is that we spend too much connecting with 140 characters that we forget that we can add more perspective and insights on blogs.
Julio’s advice is easy to follow IF you do one thing first: create a list of blogs you like and build a RSS feed for them. There’s lots of ways to do this. Alternatively, you can use services like Stumbleupon.com to provide some to you.
Once you have an active stream of blog posts, finding one a day to comment on will be easy.
By the way, I think it is OK to reference something you’ve blogged about yourself (and even link to it) IF you’re not just repeating what the author already said. Rule of thumb, if it ADDS VALUE to the post, share it. It’s like brainstorming.
Nice addition to this, and a great advice on blogging. I do think adding a link to enhance the comments works well, but when you just saw that people should visit your blog because you just posted it, that doesn’t do anything at all. Thanks for commenting!
Jeff is SO right! People ask me all the time how I manage to read so many blogs every day. This is how I do it (won’t work for everyone):
1. Subscribe to SmartBrief newsletters
2. Subscribe to blogs via email
3. Create rules in Outlook to push the blogs to separate folders when they arrive
4. Scan the folders once a day to see if there is anything I want to read further
5. Comment on the posts most interesting to me
6. Share the blogs or articles – I set up my tweets in SocialOomph so they go out for me, even if I’m in meetings
You guys scare me. Way too organized! HA! I just add some feeds and then scan my twitter stream for blogs I like. I treat my blogs like browsing in a bookstore, but these a great ideas and suggestions. Thanks for posting, guys!
Thanks for the reminder of the importance of commenting on blogs. It is simple and easy to fit in to one’s schedule,but admittedly as a small business owner, I have often overlooked the strategy. Well, no more!!
I think we all feel the schedule crunch and that is why I suggest just one a day. You will feel good about it, and it won’t take you more than 5 minutes.

Does, RT their blog count the same as commenting, I agree that commenting on blogs is a good thing.
I have a few keywords set up in my google reader for things related to Kuru Footwear that alerts me to a lot of blog post. I want to comment, but my problem is I don’t want to come across spammy if I was to comment on these types of blogs. Any suggestions?
Nathan, I think if you just saw to people that you are associate with Kuru Footwear and then bring a perspective to the blog without “selling” your product, it would be welcome. Maybe you can share anecdotes about your product or maybe you reveal things that reveal your brand’s personality in a very authentic way. In the end, people will connect with you on blogs and your product because of you and not because of your product. But great idea to set up a Google Reader for your product (btw, it got me to visit your site!), since we do the same for Fernando Varela, our main passion here at v5.
