Just like an opera, whenever I introduce a character in Franky Benítez, I will also add a music video that best describes that character. See what you think and let me know? Is this what you pictured?
Franky Benítez: The protagonist. If Franky were a song he would be this one:
Linda Marino: Franky’s mother. Born and raised in New York. Proud Italian realist. If she were a song, it would be this medley:
Francisco Antonio Benítez: Franky’s father. Born and raised in Puerto Rico. A dreamer. If he were a song, it would be this one:
Giovanni Marino: Linda’s father and Franky’s Italian grandfather. A NYC cop hero and beloved politician. If he were a song, it would be this one:
Don Octavio Benítez: Francisco Antonio’s father and Franky’s Puerto Rican grandfather. A self-made success, having risen from poverty to a successful life. If he were a song, it would be this one:
Betty Marino: Linda’s mother and Franky’s Italian grandmother. She adores her children and has the strength to confront her husband Giovanni. If she were a song, it would be this one:
This is a great idea, grounding a character with a particular sound/piece of music/soundtrack/theme song.
As a music lover, adding in references to music in my writing seems a bit jarring, but I’ve found that it also helps to create a mood for a scene or underpin an emotional moment with a song.

I agree, at least I try to keep the music in the background while I write about the characters.
