The BBC doesn’t get it. Instead of taking the time to actually write me a personal response to my complaint about TOP GEAR social media fiasco, they sent me a canned PR response that reeks of old media and arrogance. Luckily, the BBC allows you to send another complaint if you find that you are not happy with the original response.
Yup, BBC. I am not happy. This morning, this is what I sent them:
Thank you so much for your canned PR response to my complaint. It is typical of old media and does not address new media. As one of the only blogs on the Internet that actually has the full version of the TOP GEAR offensive video online, I want to thank you for giving me so much web traffic and gaining new readers for myself. Also, the issue of racism is a very sore and sensitive subject, and you are doing a poor job in handling the criticism. If you are interested in seeing MY response to you, please visit: Of Immigrants and Humor (or Lack of It) I would appreciate a more personal and individual comment since I do plan to report your insensitivity to this issue.
Best, Julio Ricardo Varela
We will see that they say. I would love it if they actually covered all these horrific developments in the United States related to illegal immigration. I highly doubt it.
Australia to TOP GEAR: No Mexican Segment, Please
So it appears that the controversy continues as reports indicate that Australian TV will not broadcast the infamous Mexican segment, which is posted here:
The story from Mumbrella says:
A spokesman for BBC Worldwide told Mumbrella that the version of Top Gear shown internationally is 50 minutes, ten minutes shorter than the British version and the segment would be dropped.
She said: “Clearly it was felt that it was appropriate to remove this contentious content. Added to which, we then didn’t get clearance on international broadcast of the still of the Mastretta that was in the background.”
Really? The reason the segment won’t be aired is because of international image clearances of the famed “Tortilla Car?” This is so surreal.
