Pedro Pierluisi, Resident Commissioner of Puerto Rico
For months the unrest at the University of Puerto Rico has made headlines. A few weeks ago Rep. Luis Gutiérrez came to Al Punto to denounce the controversial use of force by police dealing with the protestors and called it a violation of civil and human rights. This week, the Resident Commissioner of Puerto Rico, Pedro Pierluisi, who energetically disagreed with Gutiérrez’ statement, comes to Al Punto to say that there isn’t a civil rights crisis in Puerto Rico, despite techniques used by police. Why does he say Rep. Gutiérrez went too far and disrespected the people of Puerto Rico?
The article at the “El Nuevo Día” newspaper at http://www.elnuevodia.com/senadorfederaldenunciaelabusopolicialenlaisla-1021386.html shows the Senator Richard Durbin asking information to the secretary of U.S. Justice Department UU. denouncing the political abuse of Puerto Rico Police Department. Now we have to wait for the Washington Resident Commissioner Pedro Pierluisi who has served to hinder the process and failing to Gutierrez. The truth is that police brutality has intensified during the government of Luis Fortuño. I hope this news will bring hope to the souls of the victims. The truth is that the disturbing reports of the police assaults against poor communities, homeless, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender, as well as against people of African heritage and more people with disabilities Dominican Republic should be established to eradicate this situation. Certainly, these claims are not isolated incidents or atypical of a handful of police and this is openly acting without respect for civil rights for all citizens of the island should fear everybody as to the delay in completing the investigation the Police of Puerto Rico must correct these monstrosities to continue its operations without sufficient oversight or claims to be accountable.
So true!!?!
