Congressman Luis Gutiérrez (D-Illinois) has clearly become the voice of all things Puerto Rican.

Congressman Luis Gutiérrez
This week, on the floor on Congress, Gutiérrez reveals facts about how the Archbishop of Puerto Rico was the latest scapegoat of the the current administration of pro-statehood and Republican Governor Luis Fortuño. Gutiérrez speaks about how the current Puerto Rican government was attempting to silence the Archbishop about his views about Puerto Rico’s political status.
So the lame excuse for an almost-governor wants to stifle a lame excuse for an almost-moral church executive. This is the same almost-moral church executive who stuck his nose in the Aqueduct and Sewer Authority union scandal several years ago–on the wrong side and for the wrong reasons. But while hundreds of Our people are gunned down a month, thousands break up their families like switching channels and more thousands barely live at subsistence level, both of these bad cartoon characters snip and snipe over meaningless crap…and We eat it up. (And for historical perspective, research the Pulitzer Prize The San Juan Star won…)
Gil, you raise great points. It is true that the Luis vs. Luis show has been going on for a while and is tiring, but what it is interesting to note is that when it comes to votes and influence, Luis G has more pull than Luis F. Also interesting, where is Serrano and Velazquez? Knowing that Luis G has been talking about Puerto Rico on the Congress floor this year and it is clear he is no fan of Luis F, at least he is talking on the floor of Congress, unlike other congressmen of Puerto Rican descent.
But in the end, the entire politiquería is frustrating and yet you are right, the island eats it up and a puppet (literally) tells them to do so.
Typical Island ricans vs “Nuyoricans” petty arguments. Oblivious to what the real issues all Latinos face here in the mainland.
Let us not forget please there are some non-latinos here affected by the mismanagement of this island as well.
