In May, Agustín “Gus” García, a Latino political powerhouse who was one of Hilary Clinton’s top consultants for her 2008 presidential bid, was identified by CNN as the Tequila Party’s top political strategist. During that time, García said the following to CNN:

“I think first you have to understand the humor of calling it the Tequila Party. We are a culture that likes humor,” the movement’s main political consultant, Agustin “Gus” Garcia, told CNN.

“We’re not Puritans. Humor is part of our politics as well. We could have called it the ‘Cafe con Leche Party.’ You have to laugh because there is no logic in racism.”

As the fall approaches, García is no longer involved with the Tequila Party, citing his busy lecture Latinization of America Lecture Series schedule.

García, a Democrat, had joined forces with Somos Republicans founder and Tequila Party leader Dee Dee García Blase to launch the Tequila Party on Cinco de Mayo of this year. The duo made several high-profile media appearance, yet could not garner the national support they sought among Latino voters.

We reached out to García Blase for comment and have yet to hear from her. The Tequila Party organization recently had its articles of organization rejected by Arizona’s Corporate Commission.

In a move that has discredited its founder, the Arizona Corporate Commission recently rejected an application by the National Tequila Party Movement to incorporate itself in Arizona as a domestic limited liability corporation.

The Tequila Party organization, founded by Somos Republicans founder Dee Dee Blase Garcia, in essence is not a legitimate organization, as defined by the Arizona Corporate Comission. Arizona listed a “potential name conflict” that potentially invalidates the Tequila Party. Arizona listed a “potential name conflict” that potentially invalidates the Tequila Party. The current application expired last week.

We did reach out to both Somos Republican and Blase Garcia for comment, but they have not returned our requests.

This morning, we received this private Facebook message from Tequila Party founder, Dee Dee García Blase (who btw the has blocked us from all her Facebook pages and isn’t even a Facebook friend of us:). A FACEBOOK TIP TO DEE DEE: we received your comments from anonymous sources. Just being good reporters, we guess.

Guess Dee Dee doesn’t like us that much:

Please contact our lawyer and civil rights attorney Shirl Mora James of Nebraska for the Tequila Party if you have any issues. You have slandered me from the beginning. What I say on my own facebook page is my business. You use your venues to cry, and I won’t give you any attention that you seek. What I write on my facebook is my business, and indeed you take issue with the name because you questioned me on the name from the get go and asked me why not the “Rum Party”. As I have told you before, start an Lemonada Party, DO SOMETHING instead of complaining about my efforts. Learn from Puerto Rican Luis Gutierrez who knows and respects Mexican-Americans. You have a lot of growing up to do and I wish you the best. This will be my last response to you.

 Love you too, Dee Dee.

So, we must be doing right about our distaste for the silly name of the Tequila Party, since it appears that Dee-Dee García Blasé —the founder of the 2,000-member Tequila Party and the self-proclaimed Voice of All Latinos— is starting to share her thoughts about this blog and our positions.

In a message we received today, Dee-Dee’s true colors show in her criticism of this blog and LatinoRebels.com. Here is what she wrote:

For the record, the owner of the Latino Rebels who is against the name of the Tequila Party is Puerto Rican (Julio) , and we all know PR’s get automatic citizenship. I don’t think that Latino Rebels really feel what people of Mexican descent are going through right now and we have to be creative and controversial in a good way to get people to think about the importance of the latino vote to promote for pro immigration politicians. It’s too bad Latino Rebels wasn’t more like Rep. Luis Gutierrez for Illinois. Julio (Latino Rebels) asked me why we didn’t name the movement “rum party”, and I think it has something to do with PR’s and Cubanos liking ‘rum’ more so than the ‘tequila’.

We will not be subtle about this: the self-proclaimed “movement” called the Tequila Party (which btw according to its organizers has only 2,000 members worldwide) is a farce, an insult and mockery to all Latino voters in the United States.

Our poll, which clearly shows that the vast majority of our readers think the name Tequila Party is just plain misguided and dumb, continues to get votes. The verdict is clear: over 80% of our readers think the name just does not work.

Now there are rumblings that Tequila Party spokesperson DeeDee García Blasé, who is making the rounds on mainstream media promotion an organization that quite frankly has no members (our Facebook page has more members that the TP), is just a puppet figure of a bigger (and strange) plan by the Republican Party to pander to Latino voters for the 2012 elections. In the next few weeks, we plan to expose this connect and quite simply, follow the money.

In the meantime, a new Facebook page called Stop the Tequila Party has been formed tonight by Facebook users and their mission is crystal clear. As their page’s mission states:

It is clear that the recent media lovefest with DeeDee García Blasé and the Tequila Party (which claims to have 2,000 people) is sad. Blase García is making a mockery of Latino issues in this country by using a stereotypical image of a Mexican drink to “represent” the Latino voices in the US. We respectfully disagree and are committed to show the hypocrisy of this so called “movement.”

Already a few members have joined the page and have said exactly what we are hearing from political insiders: Blase García is just a front of the Republican Party. Here is one post:

This is a FARCE of a group! A front! This group was started by a Republican for the purpose of getting the Hispanics to vote Republican. Typical of these Republicans. In this case, we have a woman that will say or do what she sees fit to fight against women’s rights and gay rights. She is an evangelical right wing nut job.

So, stay tuned as we begin to explore what the real political motive is about a “movement” that insults Latinos everywhere.

Quiz time, when we say Tequila Party, what do you think of first?

A. This picture from college

B. This dance from one of the greatest movies ever

C. This bar scene

D. A well-intentioned grass-roots political movement out of Arizona that actually has some great points to make about immigration reform but has a name that makes a mockery of the movement, so much so that the movement won’t even gain any traction at all

If you think that Dee Dee García-Blasé and other Latino leaders in the United States who support the Tequila Party are just making a mockery of real Latino issues, then take a moment and go here. Let them know that political perception is all reality.

GO HERE AND SIGN: CHANGE THE NAME, NOT THE CAUSE. NO AL TEQUILA, SÍ A LA UNIDAD.
